    Composing this work, commissioned by Na Young Kwak, I began under a certain pressure as it was to be the final piece in the program for a concert consisting especially only of Antal Dorati’s compositions—as one might have guessed from the subtitle of the concert “Homage to Antal Dorati.”

    Though Antal Dorati is regarded as an important composer among oboists, it is not as well known that he, who left a remarkable legacy as a great conductor, also left a number of works for oboe as a composer.
    When oboist Na Young Kwak came up with the idea of giving a recital dedicated to the compositions by Antal Dorati and commissioned me to write a work whose medium is similar to Dorati’s Notturno & Capriccio, an early and the only work for Oboe and String Quartet by him, I felt it was fitting to write an Oboe Quartet for Na Young Kwak and Trio Kim (Dami Kim, Sang Jin Kim and Min Ji Kim), who are performing together this time. I then completed a five-movement work inspired by Dorati’s Five Pieces for Oboe Unaccompanied, not performed in this concert.
